Baku

Track: Baku City Circuit

Azerbaijan, is one of the most challenging street circuits in the Formula One Calendar. It is also one of the longest street circuits in the calendar, taking the drivers from the main straight and all the way up to the castle. It's elevation changes, tight walls and corners, is what makes this track special.

Formula One, wanted to host another Grand Prix in Europe. They eventually settled with Azerbaijan. They thought of hosting a Grand Prix in the streets of Baku, in an effort to expand the world of Formula One in Eastern Europe. The track, would feature 20 turns, 2 DRS zones, 90 degree turns, and more. The circuit was designed by German engineer Hermann Tilke.

The 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship, would be the season were Azerbaijan would make it's debut in the Formula One calendar. The track proved to be challenging for all the drivers in the field, as they witnessed the tight and challenging corners. Nico Rosberg, would be the first driver to win the Azerbaijan GP.

The 2018 Azerbaijan GP, would be a dramatic race for both Red Bull drivers. It was a disastrous weekend for Red Bull, as both of their drivers Max Verstappen & Daniel Ricciardo, crashed to each other at the main straight, which meant the retirement for both drivers.

2021 Azerbaijan GP (Formula1)

The 2021 Azerbaijan GP would be an extremely dramatic race. Title rivals Lewis Hamilton & Max Verstappen, would unfortunately have a bad race weekend. Verstappen crashed on the main straight while going in about 200mph. His crash gave Hamilton a huge chance for another race victory, to increase his points in the World Championship. However, the race was red-flagged after the crash and during the restart, Hamilton accidentally left a switch on, that would heat up his tyres. That made him lock up into turn one, which made him go towards the run-off area and putting him in last place. That dramatic moment allowed Sergio Pérez, to take the victory at Baku.

The Baku City Circuit, is still a pretty new track in the Formula One Calendar. But over the past 9 years, it managed to serve memorable moments in the sport. The track has also been loved by fans, thanks to it's challenging corners and great photographic shots.
